YMCA Childcare Resource Service offers a wide variety of education and training opportunities for early childhooh professionals, parents and teachers. Attendance and participation in these education programs my count towards the SD CARES School-Readiness Training hours.

Project MENTOR (Meeting Educational Needs Through Outreach) is a free training program. It provides on-site professional support to early childhood educators with the goal of increasing the school readiness of children in the communities of North and South San Diego County. Participation is open to licensed family child care providers and child care center staff at programs located in Escondido, Vista, Oceanside, Poway, South Bay, Chula Vista, National City, and San Ysidro.

Participants will have the opportunity to enhance the learning of young children through enriched experiences in the child’s own unique environment. In addition, participants will have access to a wide variety of professional development resources and materials to increase the quality of their child care programs. A team of professional growth mentors will work directly with early care and education providers to develop an individualized training plan from 15 hours (North County) to 40 hours (South County). An emphasis is placed on early language, literacy, numeracy, parent/teacher communication, and social and emotional behavior of young children.

Training through Project MENTOR has been approved by the San Diego CARES Program for School Readiness Training hours.
